Living With Purpose
Years ago, when I studied Zen, I was taught that a day that was lived without trying to improver yourself is a day that is wasted. A life lived without honor, dignity, character, truth, and purpose is a life that is often wasted. Someone once said that you can’t choose if you’re born and you can’t choose when you die, but you can choose how you will live. Very often, a person doesn’t really live until they find something worth dying for. It is in that purpose that our lives truly find meaning.
A person is no better than the words that they speak. If you can’t trust a person’s words, you can’t trust them. The samurai warrior never made vows, because they felt they had to honor every word spoken as if it were a vow.
The Bible teaches much of the same principles, but it teaches it with a foundation that cannot be shaken and that foundation is Jesus.
Mat 12:35 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
Mat 12:36 “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
Mat 12:37 “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
2 Cor 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
The Christian life isn’t meant to be lived like a list of dos and don’ts, but instead it is meant to be lived with a life of liberty. Liberty to be who God said you are and to it’s fullest. A life with purpose and destiny. You can’t choose if you were born and when you die, but you can choose how you live.
