Possessing Your Dream
Everyone has a dream. Everyone has a passion that burns in their heart. Something that carries them from day to day. It is an unquenchable fire within themselves that motivates them. But, few ever really possess their dream. What I am about to share with you is not the power of positive thinking or positive confession, but solid Biblical principles.
Contrary to what some think God is always speaking and He is speaking to everyone not just a select few and not just to the Church. He is a living, speaking Father who desires for His children to be the best they can be and He created everyone to have a divine destiny. Each person is a piece in a puzzle and without that piece the entire picture is incomplete. God speaks in many ways, but most of the time we don’t perceive it.
Mark 4:9 Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Here are the principles I’d like to share at this time.
Gen 13:14 The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.
Gen 13:15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.
Gen 13:16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.
Gen 13:17 Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”
1. You have to see it to possess it. If you see it you can possess it. This is more than knowing that things should be different. Before Thomas Edison invented the light bulb he knew what it looked like. He “saw” it. He did not discover it by accident. He didn’t start out by burning rags in a bucket. There was a divine deposit within him, a seed, of what was to be and what could happen. He did not let thousands of failures keep him from what his dream was. Likewise, if your dream burns within you, and you have seen it, nothing will keep you from possessing it. Nothing, except you.
2. You have to walk in it before you possess it. Abram walked the land that God promised him, but Abram did not possess it immediately. He had to walk in it first. The children of Israel entered their promised land, but they had to walk in it and defeat their adversaries before they ever possessed it. If you want to become a great musician it has to be in your heart before you will ever possess it and you will have to walk in it. It won’t happen by itself. If you want to be a mediocre musician then that’s all you ever will be. God will always give you a “taste” of your destiny upfront, but then He with draws His hand and you will have to search it out and defeat your adversaries first and very often your greatest adversary is yourself.
3. You will have to leave some people and some ideas behind you. God did not speak to Abram until after his nephew Lot departed. Likewise, if you want to possess your dream you will have to leave some people and ideas behind. Let go of the negative people. If they don’t desire the best for you then they aren’t truly your friends and are more like enemies of your destiny. You also will have to let go of some old ideas. The Wright brothers, before they ever flew, had to go against the popular ideas at the time of aviation theory. If you have a divine dream then you will have to let go of some old ideas.
4. What you gaze upon the most is what you will become.
2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
This verse is talking about developing a Christ likeness, but the principle remains the same. What ever you gaze upon the most you will become like. Very often the ministers that consider themselves watchdogs for the church, all they see is evil, and they themselves become some of the meanest people on earth. If all you look at is evil then you will become evil. If you look at good, then you will become good. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Again, as an example, if you want to become a great musician then you will always be looking at great musicians and patterning your life after them. At the same time it won’t happen over night. You will be changed from glory to glory. It is a process. If all you look at is mediocrity then you will become mediocre. To be excellent you have to develop a habit of excellence. Don’t allow mediocre people to dictate what you will become. The decisions is yours.
I pray this blessed and helped you and it applies for every situation and scenario. From art to fatherhood or motherhood. From being a laborer on a construction site to being the president of the United States. There are principles to follow to achieve your dream. These are only a few. No matter what, never give up and never quit. You can’t fail, but you can quit at any time.
God Bless,
Dave
