The Passing of Time

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 7:13 am

Last night our oldest cat, Sissy, died. She was 19 years old and the last of three abandoned kittens that we took in. As I lay in bed I began to think about the passing of time and how things change.

When I started playing music, over 30 years ago, I remember the kids that we used to play for. Now those kids have grown up and have formed bands, but they now have children of their own who are also starting their own music careers.

The natural order of things is the old is always making way for the new. King David wrote in one of his psalms, “Psa 37:25 I have been young, and now am old;”. That was several thousand years ago. We are meant to grow and change. Life changes. Someone once said, “The only things that remains constant is change”.

I believe we are at a monumental time in church history. The generation that is growing up now faces issues and problems like no one in history has ever faced before. Technology is growing faster than we can imagine. Before a solution is in place to solve a problem it is already outdated. People will be working in jobs in a few years that now don’t even exist. Political boundaries are eroding and soon there will truly be a global community.

I believe the church, too, needs to look at itself and adjust. Never changing the message, but changing our programs, services, what we call worship, and what we call ministry.

Mat 9:17 “Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

I believe we need to look past what we call church, our pet programs and doctrines, and look to the needs of the generation coming up. Again, never changing the message, but if we want to preserve that which has true lasting value we must look at the new wineskins that are growing up. I believe then the church, as we call it, will be preserved and will come into it’s finest days and we will see the power and revival we have prayed for.

God Bless,
Dave
